Jackson school holds holistic workshop for teachers

JACKSON, Tenn. — It’s National Teachers Appreciation Week — in recognition, Jackson Central-Merry Middle School held a holistic workshop for its teachers.

Speaker and Reiki specialist, Nina Teapot Owens led the workshop titled “Hit Pause.”

Reiki is a Japanese technique for relaxation and stress relief.

The focus of the workshop was helping teachers pause, refresh and breathe.

Teachers pour their efforts into students daily, so this time was set apart for them to focus on themselves.

“A lot of people have misconceptions of truly what selfcare is,” Owens said. “Not to get it confused with self maintenance or to even think that it would cost a lot to implement those things in our life.”

As a North Side High School graduate, Owens shared that she is grateful for the chance to serve her home community.
