Students create assistive technology for community members
JACKSON, Tenn. — One college here in the Hub City made life more accessible for some community members.
College students from Union University mentored students from local middle and high schools to help create assistive technology.
Some of the items included a chair for gaming and a grabbing tool.
Students had several months to create a product that would make someone’s life a little easier.
This evening, the designers presented their work to the public and will gift the final product to those who need it most.
“The people that receive the items it’s just always very moving to see the impact that seems very small to us can have on someone’s life,” said Georg Pingen, Professor of Engineering for Union University.
This is one of the many ways that Union University’s Engineering Department gives back to the community.
They also host workshops and summer camps.
