Expert shares tips for interview success post graduation

JACKSON, Tenn. — Millions of college students are graduating this May and entering the workforce.

It’s natural to feel overwhelmed when searching for your first full-time and part-time employment opportunities.

Whether the interview is in person, over the phone, or via video chat, the first conversation with a potential employer is often nerve-wracking.

But the more you prepare, the more confident you’ll feel.

It’s encouraged to research the company and the position you’re applying for before your interview.

Refer back to the job postings you applied for to review the requirements and qualifications of the position.

Also, you should familiarize yourself with the company’s products and services so that you understand how the position you’re applying for adds value to the business.

“Communicating where you want to be, what you want to do, but doing that with balancing of really focusing on your job also and doing it well. It’s kind of that happy medium that I think can allow for the most success,” said Andres Lares, Managing Partner for Shapiro Negotiations Institute.

Experts say don’t forget to research the company culture as well, on review sites such as Glassdoor.

Also, research typical interview questions, and prepare your answers ahead of time.

Doing this helps you script and frame your answers for what they’re looking for.
