High school program gives students a head start
BROWNSVILLE, Tenn. — Haywood High School makes history in their school district by certifying 25 nursing students from their Patient Care Technician Program.
Students can start pre-nursing courses as early as their freshman year, and move on to official nursing classes when they are a junior.
Juniors that have their nursing assistant certificate can get a head start by working in the field at nursing homes and hospitals while in school.
This program allows students to have an opportunity to gain needed experience to excel in their careers.
“We are partnered with TCAT Jackson. We offer dual enrollment courses for their PCT. Their first class is Medical Terminology. They’ve been through that, Anatomy and Physiology, and then of course they just completed the third– the nursing program. That way they get the opportunity to test for their Certified Nursing Assistant Certification,” said Donna Winchester, Health Science Teacher.
With these resources being implemented early on, students have an advantage to attain greater success in their future endeavors.
