TBI investigates possible arson in Martin

PRESS RELEASE FROM CITY OF MARTIN FIRE/RESCUE/EMS:

On Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at 05:48 AM, the City of Martin Fire/Rescue/EMS responded to a structure fire at 214 Elm Street.

When personnel arrived, they observed heavy fire and smoke coming from a window. Personnel started fire suppression operations. A bystander notified command that all occupants were out of the structure. Command requested Sharon Fire Department to the scene for mutual aid.

The fire was placed under control at 06:07 AM. Upon extinguishment of the fire, personnel observed suspicious items that could be associated with an intentionally set fire. Command contacted Chief Summers and notified him of the findings. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigations Fire Investigation Division was notified of the findings.

TBI Fire Investigations sent agents to the scene with an accelerant detecting canine and specialized equipment. It was determined that the fire was deemed suspicious. The fire is currently under investigation.

The City of Martin Fire/Rescue/EMS responded with 6 apparatus with 23 personnel. Sharon Fire Department responded with 1 apparatus and 5 personnel.

There were no injuries to any residents or fire personnel.
