West Tennessee Sportsplex to host USSSA tournament
JACKSON, Tenn. — The West Tennessee Sportsplex prepares for their United States Specialty Sports Association’s Global State Tournament.
Baseball teams from six different states are headed to West Tennessee to play ball.
West Tennessee Sportsplex will hold their USSSA Global State Tournament beginning Saturday, May 18, until Sunday, May 19.
The Director of Operations, Jason Compton, said that he’s excited about this year’s game.
“We’re theming it as our ‘Superhero smash’. We have 112 teams coming into town to compete. Every age group from seven-year-olds through 14- year-olds and it’s going to be a fun weekend out here,” said Compton.
He says that there are many surprises planned.
“Competing for a specially themed superhero ring for all the age divisions and a few other surprises throughout the day,” said Compton.
The sportsplex asks all of the teams to dress up in their favorite superhero attire .
Compton said they are trying to step out of the box and do something different.
“People are sure to see all the teams all over town throughout the weekend. It’s going to be a huge, nice event for Jackson,” said Compton.
All 17 fields will be used throughout the entire weekend for the tournament.
Compton says that they want teams from other states to enjoy what jackson has to offer.
“If we can do just a little bit something different to make the experience here at West Tennessee Healthcare Sportsplex in Jackson memorable, then, that’s what we’re trying to do,” said Compton.
The first game will kick off at 9 a.m. On Saturday, May 18.
