Positive Living Group awards scholarship to local student
JACKSON, Tenn. — The Positive Living Group awarded their first scholarship to a high school student that plans to further her education at UT Martin this fall.
For them, this is a small start to a greater beginning for promising future leaders.
“We know that there are many students in Jackson Madison County that are giving back,” said Aimee Evans, Positive Living Group President. “I know there are so many hours, so many volunteer hours that are happening throughout Jackson. So, we want to be a part of the community that acknowledges that, and looks at and highlights those amazing students that are giving back to Jackson.”
This recognition correlates to the Giraffe Awards that honor influential individuals in our community. It acknowledges young people that are “small giraffes” impacting their community in amazing ways early on.
“The money comes from the Giraffe Awards,” explained Twana Miller with PLG. “The Giraffe Awards is a charity event that we do once a year, and we take those funds and we want to put them right back into the community. So that’s what we’re doing with it. We wanted to start looking for some baby giraffes, planting these seeds in the minds of young people so that they can aspire to be a giraffe like the people we honor across West Tennessee.”
The recipient, Kendall Cardwell, encourages other students to put themselves out there and always give their best.
“Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do it,” Cardwell said. “And don’t let anyone tell you that you’re doing too much. Don’t — don’t listen to them.”
The word is out for high school students making a difference in Jackson, and you could be the next recipient of this scholarship opportunity.
