TDOT announces plan to make holiday weekend safer for travelers

JACKSON, Tenn. — Memorial Day weekend is almost here, and if you plan on hitting the road, your journey might have just gotten a little smoother.

According to the Tennessee Department of Transportation, there will be no road construction delays for Memorial Day travelers.

TDOT is also set to suspend temporary lane closure activity on interstates and state routes for the holiday weekend.

This will begin at 12 p.m. on Friday, May 24 and last through 6 a.m. on Tuesday, May 28.

According to TDOT, motorists may still encounter some lane closures or restrictions while traveling through long-term construction projects.

In that case, you’re encouraged to move over and slow down.

“This kind of kicks off summer. School’s out, kids are out for summer as well. So you know vacation season starts and we just want to make sure everyone is safe and being mindful when they’re out on those roads traveling,” said Nichole Lawrence, Regional Communications Officer for TDOT.

Officials say the goal is to provide maximum roadway capacity for motorists on Memorial Day weekend.
