Jackson resident expresses concerns about unhoused population
JACKSON, Tenn. — One Jackson resident is speaking out about what he says is an ongoing problem in the city.
Brad Greer, with Greer Real Estate Group, shared his concern with the unhoused population living in downtown Jackson.
“When on the daily, my wife and my agents have to look at men’s body parts– their private parts, because they’re peeing on our building. I think there comes a point where we expect more from our city,” said Greer.
Greer shares that other business owners near him have found a few incidents of loitering in downtown businesses and inappropriate activities.
This has caused him and other owners to take it to Jackson’s City Hall.
“And City Hall will just not address it. I’ve asked, asked and asked and I know other business owners have. Me and several people probably about 15 other people, signed a letter to the mayor begging for help a couple of months ago and he didn’t even respond to us,” said Greer.
He also adds that the pending Men’s Shelter may cause problems if poorly executed.
“And these are the sorts of things that we got to be looking at as a city, what are we really doing? Are we addressing the problem or are we throwing some dollars and creating a bigger problem,” said Greer.
Overall he wants to keep downtown Jackson as an area where people can enjoy walking freely.
“I don’t want to become San Francisco, where there’s just open tents all over the city walks. I want people to be able to enjoy their downtown. Enjoy all parts of Jackson, Tennessee. And if we open up this Pandora’s Box any further I don’t know how we get it closed,” said Greer.
We reached out to Jackson Mayor, Scott Conger, who has not commented at this time.
However, on Saturday, May 18th, Conger shared a post to the public asking for their input in regards to the Men’s Shelter being built.
He adds on the post that some residents are against this shelter being built.
Greer, along with others who are concerned, are hoping to have a conversation with City Hall members someday this week.
