Business highlights impact of hearing aids amid Better Hearing Month

JACKSON, Tenn. — May is Better Hearing Month and there are many kinds of hearing aids available.

However, the only ones that health insurance will commonly cover are prescription hearing aids.

West Tennessee Hearing Aid Center offices only provide prescription hearing aids.

Each individual person receives their hearing aids based on the size of their canal, their ear and their hearing loss.

Patients can return each year to get their hearing retested and their hearing aids cleaned and reprogramed.

Often, people can’t hear high pitch sounds in speech such as t’s (teez), k’s (kays), and s’s (esses), but may hear low pitch sounds like vowels.

“People will find themselves being able to hear but not able to understand. That’s where the words get turned, so, by correcting the hearing loss and during the hearing test, we do that to find out how well the ears work if we do correct it,” said Randy Williams, owner of the West TN Hearing Aid Center.

Williams urges people not to put off hearing aids.

The process is painless and improves quality of life.
