Memorial Day events: Fun activities to add to the itinerary

JACKSON, Tenn. — The countdown to the unofficial start to summer is already underway.

As we approach this three-day weekend for Memorial Day, here are a few activities to add to your itinerary.

To kick off the holiday weekend, on Saturday May 25th, the Veterans of Foreign Wars will have their Memorial Day Remembrance Program beginning at 9 a.m. at 200 Ridgecrest Road.

During the program, there will be a speaker and playing of taps.

Also on Saturday, the Rolling Thunder TN Chapter 6 will hold their Memorial Day Parade.

This ride will begin in Dresden on Wilson Street at 9 a.m. and make its way to Humboldt where it will conclude at the Humboldt funeral home to honor those veterans.

Shiloh’s National Military Park will have day one of the U.S. Military History Timeline at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 25th, and will continue on Sunday, May 26th, ending at 2 p.m.

Love and Truth in Jackson is taking time to honor teachers, veterans, and all current graduates Sunday morning, May 26th, with awards at their 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. church services.

And finally on Monday beginning at 11 a.m., Tennessee Post 157 American Legion will honor the nation’s fallen soldiers at Henderson City Hall.

There will also be a special wreath laying inside the city hall chambers with members of community services.

A family favorite afternoon and evening trip to Beech Lake will also return for those who may want to spend their extra day outside.

These are just a few of the numerous events taking place across West Tennessee for the Memorial Day weekend.
