A flood watch remains in effect for all of West Tennessee until 7am Monday morning.
24 Hour Rainfall Totals As Of Saturday Morning
TODAY:
Storms moved through this morning adding to an already saturated ground. Between 4 and 5 inches has already stacked up in the last 24 hours and more rain arrives Sunday morning! The rain moves out this morning and we’ll return to mostly sunny skies for the rest of our Saturday. A slight chance of a couple of isolated storms in the afternoon, but most will not get rain. Enjoy the break in the rain because it comes back in full force on Sunday both the morning and again late evening.
MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND:
As of now we are going to keep rain in the forecast at times over the 3 day weekend. The forecast could change depending on where the late weekend system tracks as it approaches and slides across the Mid South and where it stalls out. It will be a warm and humid weekend with southerly winds regardless if you get the storms or not. If you have outdoor plans this weekend you need to monitor the forecast closely as the weekend progresses to determine the best day for outdoor plans which as of now appears to be Saturday and Monday. Saturday looks like the nicer day of the two with the best chance of avoiding showers and thunderstorms will be Sunday morning and a severe storm threat will move in Sunday night into early Monday morning.
Highs will be in the mid to upper 80s with morning lows in the upper 60s this weekend. The winds are forecast to have a southerly component to them all weekend long as well. There is also a chance for some stronger storms or severe weather this weekend as well with Sunday night being the time we need to keep the closest eye on.
Outdoor plans Sunday night into Monday morning might need to be cancelled as severe storms seem more likely than not as of now with that line of storms. We will sort out the threat as the weekend progresses before you finalize your plans.
There could be two rounds of storms on Sunday. One early Sunday morning and another one late Sunday evening continuing into Sunday night.
NEXT WEEK:
We are expecting the severe weather and storms to move out for our Memorial Day and the beginning of next week. Temperatures are going to be cooler behind Sunday night’s cold front. We should see plenty of sunshine starting on Memorial Day and continuing into the first half of next week. Highs on Monday will reach the low 80s, but mid 70s are possible for both Tuesday and Wednesday from the northwest winds behind the front. We are expected a dry start to the work week as well, at least through Wednesday. Morning lows may even fall back down to the 50s for both Monday and Tuesday night’s next week.
FINAL THOUGHT:
The weather is looking quite wet at times for our upcoming holiday weekend in West Tennessee. A few rounds of severe weather will be possible so please stay weather aware and check on the weather forecast. Temperatures will stay above normal all weekend and the humidity looks to be a factor the entire week as well. If you are looking for a dry weather, you might have to wait until Memorial day and for the first half of next week. We will be tracking the storms all week in the 7 Storm Team Weather Center and you need to monitor the forecast as well if you are planning on some outdoor activities for the upcoming 3-day weekend.
