Storm causes damage in Union City
OBION CO., Tenn.—Homes and businesses damaged in Obion county following a major storm.
A strong thunderstorm carrying heavy rain, hail, cloud to ground lightning, and straight line winds moved through the Union City area this morning.
A tornado warning was issued for the area at that time.
EMA Director Danny Jowers confirmed the city received damage in the area along Reelfoot Avenue.
The storm caused major flooding, downed trees and powerlines, and also damage to homes in a local mobile home park.
The discovery center was closed due to power outtages and damage, according to a statement.
Several residents were also left without power throughout the area.
“We’ve got trees, downed powerlines. Talked to Danny Jowers with EMA and the National Weather Service is saying 60-70 mph straight line winds,” said Sgt. Brandon Adams, Union City Police.
I was sleeping, when I started feeling the trailer moving around, and like hearing the noises of the winds and stuff. Then when we moved outside, we noticed that the tree was falling and stuff and it was just starting to flood,” said Neomis Rios, Union City resident.
No injuries were reported.
