American Legion Post holds annual remembrance event

HENDERSON, Tenn. — A local town celebrates today’s holiday at their annual remembrance event.

The American Legion Post 157 had their Memorial Day celebration at Henderson City Hall.

Residents and veterans were invited to learn the history of how Memorial Day began.

During this service, the national hymn was played, along with the laying of the reefs for all fallen warriors.

To conclude the celebration they raised the flag to honor the lives of those lost.

“Military services is a dangerous thing and each year we pick a different subject to focus on to make it interesting for the people that are attending and to make sure they don’t forget stuff that we think is important for all American citizens to remember,” said Paul Martin, master of ceremonies for American Legion.

They are hoping to have an “Armed Forces Day” celebration in the near future.
