WBBJ 7 Forecast Update:
Very heavy rain, strong gusty winds and small hail pelted West Tennessee Sunday night. As of now, we have only seen reports of straight line wind damage. Mostly dry weather is coming this week. We cannot rule out a few mid week showers but most of us are expected to be dry until the upcoming weekend. We will have the latest on the storm reports, more on any flooding concerns and the rest of your week’s forecast coming up right here.
Here is a look at some of the wind storm damage reports we saw across West Tennessee from Sunday night. As of now, the NWS in Memphis has no survey plans for our area and has classified all the storm damage as straight line winds. If they chances, we will let you know what they find. We had wind and flood damage in Obion county and many down trees in Gibson and Madison counties, especially around the Medon area.
TONIGHT:
We have seen a couple heat and humidity driven pop up showers this evening but we are going to be dry tonight across West Tennessee. Skies will remain clear tonight and the wins will be calm for the most part. Temperatures will dip down a little bit into the low 60s by the time the sun comes up Tuesday morning.
TUESDAY:
We are expecting plenty of sunshine on Tuesday although there will be a few afternoon clouds popping up. The showers are likely to stay away on Tuesday and we are looking at a very nice afternoon and evening. Skies will be mostly sunny and the winds will be light and come out of the northwest. The humidity will decrease a bit and that will allow overnight temperatures to fall down to around 60°.
WEDNESDAY:
There is a low pressure system that will pass to the southwest of West Tennessee and could bring a few more clouds our way. If the system drifts far enough to the north, there is a chance for a few showers to develop in our southern counties. As of now we are not expecting much if any rain at all but we will be watching the low and tracking it as it gets closer. If we do see rain, we are not expecting severe weather or big storms. Rain chances as of now sit around 20%.
Highs on Wednesday will only make it up to around 80° and the winds are still expected to come out of the north for most of us. Wednesday night lows will again fall down to around 60° with some areas in our northern counties dipping down into the upper 50s. Some of those showers could linger Wednesday night in our southern counties if they make it this far north around that low pressure system.
THURSDAY:
Sunshine is expected to dominate the skies again on Thursday but there could be a little bit of cloud cover lingering around in the morning. Thursday looks to be dry again for most of us. The winds will shift from the north to the east during the day but that will keep the humidity in check again. Highs on Thursday will make it into the upper 70s or maybe the low 80s for some of us. Thursday night lows will drop to the upper 50s to near 60°. Rain chances on Thursday are only 10%.
FRIDAY:
Friday will start out dry but there could be some late night showers returning, but chances are better for rain and storms as we get going into the weekend. Friday will start out sunny but some clouds are forecast to build in towards the evening and increase overnight into the weekend. Highs on Friday will stay around 80° and the winds will have an easterly component to them most of the day. The winds might shift to the south Friday night. Friday night lows will fall down to the low 60s. Chances for rain Friday night is 30% as of now.
WEEKEND FORECAST:
The next shot for storms and heavy rain showers looks to be on tap for the upcoming weekend. As of now, it does not appear to be a big severe weather maker for us in the Mid South but we will be keeping a close eye on the forecast this weekend as the weekend gets a little closer. Expect a mostly cloudy weekend and the humidity will begin to rise due to a return in the southerly winds. Highs this weekend will linger around the 80° mark both day with morning lows in the mid to upper 60s. Chances for rain right now are 40% on Saturday, 30% on Sunday and showers are forecast to continue into Monday night week as well.
FINAL THOUGHT:
After a very stormy end to our weekend, quiet and mild weather has returned to kick off the work week. Most of us will be dry until the upcoming weekend but we will need to monitor how far north the mid week low pressure gets that will pass down in Arkansas and Mississippi in the middle of the week. Highs and lows will be very close to normal for the end of May. Severe weather does not seem likely as of now in the forecast but we are still in the middle of severe weather season so we will need to keep a close eye on things as we get closer to the upcoming weekend.
