Special Olympics invites community to Summer Sports Camp
JACKSON, Tenn. — One non-profit organization is building their program by providing sports and fitness programs for the specials needs community.
The Southwest Area 11 Special Olympics covers 7 counties in West Tennessee in addition to the greater Jackson area.
Upcoming competitions include the Summer Sports Camp that kicks off Saturday, June 1st from 2 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. at Westwood Gardens.
The goal of the sports and fitness programs is to promote more inclusive opportunities to special needs individuals.
It is also an effort to invite the public to be a part of the special needs community.
“You will see your athletes develop on another level. We encourage their self-confidence, their awareness and their overall abilities. I firmly believe everybody needs a champion and someone to cheer them on. That’s what Special Olympics is. It provides an opportunity outside of the norm for athletes to express themselves,” said Jamaal Brady, Special Olympics area director.
Brady encourages the community to support the organization by volunteering, donating or attending events.
