Boys and Girls Club of Jackson kicks off summer camp

JACKSON, Tenn. — School is out and sometimes, for parents, it may be tough to keep the kids occupied throughout the summer days.

The Boys and Girls Club of Jackson is hosting their summer camp until July 19. It began Monday, and the students were having a wonderful time with their activities. Before we go into more detail about the camp, we first need to know about the Boys and Girls Club in general.

“The Boys and Girls Club is an after school and summer program for youth. We are here for our scholars to be able to learn, to grow in a positive place cause we believe great futures start here,” said Sabrina Anderson, CEO of the Jackson Boys and Girls Club.

The club actually has a new location for this year’s summer camp.

“This is our newest location, which is Boys and Girls Club North. It is at 27 Oil Well Road. We have it in partnership with Northside Assembly Church,” said Anderson.

So what can you expect your child to be doing if you are able to send them to the summer camp? On top of all of the different fun activities that are available each and every day, there are also some learning opportunities.

“Kids get to play games, they get to learn, they get to build their character, and we also teach them social and emotional interaction. So we want them to have fun, we also want them to learn. And it’s easy for kids to be able to learn things if you are kind and gentle, and then you get to go forward,” said Anderson.

Even though camp has already started, you still have time to get signed up, however, you need to hurry.

“It grows every single day. We’ve had people signing up who are interested in having a safe environment for their kids to thrive and grow, we also have breakfast and lunch, and then we have a snack. So they don’t have to worry about that either,” said Anderson.

Anderson also says that they are kid friendly and aim to build scholars.
