Jackson Police Department swears in new officers during ceremony
JACKSON, Tenn. — One local law enforcement team welcomes new people to a new position.
The Jackson Police Department welcomed eight new officers at their police swearing in ceremony.
Chief Thom Corley told us that the newly appointed officers will go through several weeks of training as well as riding with a senior officer.
Each officer took pictures with Mayor Scott Conger, Councilman Richard Donnell and other elected officials.
Each male was encouraged by Chief Corley to keep close relationships with their family members because in hard times, their family will be their biggest support.
“The biggest thing that drew me to Jackson was the amount of community relations work that they did. Just from the time that I was down here before I got hired on, I got to see a lot of it. And since I’ve been on, I’ve seen a lot of it. Especially with Lane College and trying to do the fentanyl awareness programs that they’ve done so I’m hoping to do a lot of that,” said Officer Cody Witzman with the Jackson Police Department.
In total, the Jackson Police Department has hired 15 new officers since the beginning of the year.
