Men of Hope program celebrates second anniversary

MADISON COUNTY, Tenn. — It’s not about why you need help, it’s about where you can get it and how it will serve you in the best way.

“There’s still hope for you and I’ll tell you why — it’s the second anniversary for the Men of Hope here in Beech Bluff and it’s all about how they’ve recovered,” said Pastor Marcie Hendrick, Executive Director of Hope Recovery.

This faith-based initiative challenges the preconceived notion that makes you believe getting help is a bad thing. About 80% of the members are court-ordered, but even if you a struggling today, there’s hope just a call away.

“The program is about men and women caught in the cycle of addiction,” said Hendrick. “Where they feel hopeless and the program gives them hope in a new way to change their life. It’s long term, so they’re actually here a year.”

12 beds and 12 men fill the recovery program, and as of now, they have 11 acres, but they hope to expand in the future. One member tells us about his initial reaction when he joined.

“When they said a year long, I was like ‘woah,’ you know, so I had my doubts at first, but then they said ‘you’re going to a faith-based,’ which really is the only way you can make it — with Jesus, with God,” said Men of Hope member Corey White.

The program solidifies a way to pull away the distractions of people, places, and things that may hinder their recovery journey.

“We do celebrate recovery,” White said. “We do devotions every day and we write them down. We say how we need to apply to life and we’ve just got to take that stuff with us when we get out of here.”

White says thank you to the leaders of the program, his family, and friends.

If you have the chance, check out the Hope Café and Hope Gift Shop located near downtown Jackson that helps individuals who are a part of this program have access to jobs and a safe place to work. You’ll find they also like sharing their testimony of what God is doing in their life.
