Stanley Black & Decker plans for ‘mass layoff’ at Jackson facility

JACKSON, Tenn. — One of Jackson’s largest manufacturers will be conducting a mass layoff starting later this year.

According to a letter issued to employees of Stanley Black & Decker on June 4, the company anticipates “permanently reducing” their headcount at the Jackson facility located at 90 Passmore Lane.

The letter states in part, “In an effort to optimize its footprint and better serve customers, Stanley Black & Decker in 2023 announced changes to its manufacturing and distribution network,” with this layoff being a result of that.

The reduction in workforce is expected to take place in three phases, beginning this August, and will “permanently eliminate” approximately 84 positions. The letter notes that it is possible that some employees will be offered transfers to another area.

According to the letter, some operations will remain at the site, and the manufacturing center at 100 Passmore Lane remains and is unaffected by the notice.
