Few Showers Saturday, Storms for Some ff Us on Sunday

WBBJ 7 Forecast Update

WBBJ 7 Forecast Update:

Another storm system is on the way and will look to impact West Tennessee this weekend. The most likely time to be impacted by the heavy rain with some embedded storms appears to be late Saturday night through Sunday morning. The potential exists for some areas to see 4-5″ of rain if training occurs along the set up stationary boundary Sunday morning. The severe weather threat with this system is low, but cannot be ruled out. We will have the rest of your weekend’s forecast coming up here.

2024 HURRICANE SEASON FORECAST:

NOAA’s outlook for the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season, which spans from June 1 to November 30, predicts an 85% chance of an above-normal season, a 10% chance of a near-normal season and a 5% chance of a below-normal season.

NOAA is forecasting a range of 17 to 25 total named storms (winds of 39 mph or higher). Of those, 8 to 13 are forecast to become hurricanes (winds of 74 mph or higher), including 4 to 7 major hurricanes (category 3, 4 or 5; with winds of 111 mph or higher). The upcoming Atlantic hurricane season is expected to have above-normal activity due to a confluence of factors, including near-record warm ocean temperatures in the Atlantic Ocean, development of La Nina conditions in the Pacific, reduced Atlantic trade winds and less wind shear, all of which tend to favor tropical storm formation.

TONIGHT:

Friday looks like a really nice day across West Tennessee and will probably be the best day of the week. Rain is not in the forecast and we only see a few afternoon clouds. Highs on Friday will make it up to the low 80s and Friday night lows will fall down to around 60°. Friday will not be a humid day as the winds are forecast to come out of the northwest. Chances for rain are 0%.

THE WEEKEND:

The weekend is going to be a tricky forecast and another system is heading our way and will look to stall out close to us this weekend. As of now, we are expecting a mostly dry day on Saturday but a few pop up showers chances will be possible early in the day. The best shot for rain is coming late Saturday night and into the day on Sunday. The system does not look like a big severe weather maker even if it impacts us still some, but some storms and showers will be possible. The winds this weekend will vary in direction depending on where the front stalls out and it if the low pressure system pushes through or not.

There will be more clouds on Sunday but partly cloudy skies are expected on Saturday. Rain chances are 30% on Saturday and 60% on Sunday right now. If you are planning on heading to the CMA fest this weekend, keep an eye on the forecast so you know if you need to bring an umbrella or poncho to the event.

NEXT WEEK:

There could be some showers still lingering around on Monday, but we are expecting a dry spell for the beginning of next week. The winds are forecast to come out of the north for the first half of next week as well and that will help keep the temperatures down a bit. Highs will hang around 80° to start the week and morning lows will linger around 60°. Enjoy a few cooler days before another warm up will look to be on tap for the back half of next week and might continue into the following weekend.

FINAL THOUGHT:

Early week storms impacted most of West Tennessee what seems like the 8 week in row dealing with showers and storms across the Mid South. We will see another shot for some rain showers this weekend. There could be a cooler and quieter weather pattern setting up for the beginning of next week before another warm up may try to return by the following weekend. Highs will hang around normal for this time of the year through the weekend at least. No significant severe weather looks to be heading our way but there are still a few chances for showers and storms in the forecast.
