Incident draws police presence at McKenzie railroad tracks

UPDATE (6/11/24): Police identify victim in fatal train incident

MCKENZIE, Tenn.—According to a WBBJ-7 Eyewitness News Tipster, police officers were on the scene of a possible body found at the railroad tracks in McKenzie.

The incident occurred at the tracks located in the area behind Hamilton Street.

The news tipster told us that police were on the scene around 6 this morning and were also seen still working the scene when our crews arrived just after 9.

According to the tipster, the train was forced to apply its emergency brakes to make an emergency stop early this morning.

Our crews witnessed employees from CSX Railway Company at the scene, law enforcement agents, and also several bystanders.

At this time authorities are not releasing any details on the incident, but witnesses say that officers could be seen wearing gloves and walking up and down the tracks taking photos in what appeared to be an attempt to collect evidence.

One tipster also indicated to us that at one point an ambulance was present at the scene.

“I got in my car and went down to the railroad tracks, down to the crossing and realized that there was all kinds of lights down there, police, fire ambulance, everybody was down there,” said Correna Dycus, witness.
