Jackson Animal Care Center reaches maximum capacity
JACKSON, Tenn. — Ever thought about adopting a new furry friend? Now’s the time.
We spoke with the Director of Animal Services for the City of Jackson, Whitney Owen, who told us the Animal Care Center is at maximum capacity.
Owen says the issue is caused by irresponsible owners who refuse to get their animals spayed or neutered and have unexpected litters, which then are brought to shelters.
On top of the excessive intake, the issue is made worse by what she calls “Kitten Season” where they have upwards of 100 plus kittens coming through the door a month.
Owen says they will not begin euthanizing animals to create space.
“We have reached out maximum number of animals currently and we do not have room to take in anything unless we adopt something out. So, it’s this constant shuffle of find one a home, take in another one, it’s a revolving door,” said Owen.
Owen says the Animal Care Center is looking forward to moving to their new facility in the fall.
