Men’s Health Month: The importance of preventative care for men

JACKSON, Tenn. — Every June, Men’s Health Month serves as a crucial reminder of the pressing need to prioritize men’s well-being.

While it’s a time to celebrate fathers and men, it’s also a sobering occasion to confront the stark realities of men’s health statistics.

According to recent data, only three out of five men undergo an annual physical, and shockingly, more than 40-percent of men seek medical attention only when faced with a serious health crisis.

Moreover, men are less likely to visit doctors for preventive care.

These figures underscore the critical importance of early detection and proactive health management.

“We at Movember want to create some easy steps that men can take better and healthier lives that we call “The Men’s Health Five.” So we want men to stay better connected with their families and their friends, and so they have support networks,” said Timothy Gnaneswaran, U.S. country director for Movember.

Men, on average, have a life expectancy of 76.1 years, significantly lower than the women’s average of 81.1 years.

Men are four times more likely to die by suicide and are at greater risk of heart disease, cancer, injuries, stroke, and HIV or aids.
