Betty Allison Winston
We are sadden beyond measure to
announce the passing of Betty Allison Winston.
Betty was born and raised in Jackson, Tn. Her
parents were Frank Miller Allison and Ann Wil-
liams Allison. She had a very loving brother, Frank
Gammon Allison who had preceded her in death.
She attended Jackson High School and grew up
on College Street.
Her career placed her as a secretary/bookkeeper
with the Jackson City School system for over 30
years. She opened Parkway Jr. High in 1971 during
integration. She moved to Tigrett Jr. High later in
her career. She had hundreds of students, teachers, and principals that she
influenced, assisted, and worked for and she “ran her office” as if it was a
tight ship.
She loved the ocean and was happiest with her feet in the sand and
waves. She started her love for the beach every summer with the love of her
life, Robert Winston at Daytona Beach. Later in life, her favorite beach was
Laguna Beach and she loved visiting Southern California with her daughter
Alison Winston for months at a time especially just last September.
She was a long time member of Trinity Methodist Church beginning at
an early age, where her family were founding members on Chester Street.
As her family grew, she and Robert were active at West Jackson Baptist
Church with their family and involved in the choir for years. Later, they
became members at Northside Methodist Church and a member of her
beloved PACERS Sunday School class. She was faithful to her Lord and
Savior her entire life.
My parents loved their UT Volunteers in every sport and experienced
three children receiving degrees from the University. She leaves behind two
other children Russell Winston and Andrea Winston Lewin and three grandsons Nicholas and Mitchell Winston and Adam Lewin.
In every aspect of her life, Betty exemplified compassion, empathy, love,
fun and gratitude. She made an indelible impression on all who had the
pleasure of knowing her and she never met a stranger with her lovely South-
ern accent. Her gorgeous blue eyes and smile lit up a room. She was a very
young 91-year-old. She was just planning her next trip for July and loved to
travel with her daughter Alison. After the death of Robert, she spent 5 years
with her daughter Alison and lived and spent her time between California
and Tennessee. She loved to walk in all seasons around her neighborhood
where she lived for the last 45 years. At 91, she was able to walk up her hill
in her neighborhood which impressed the neighbors and her cardiologist!
The memories she created and the love she shared will live on. She leaves
behind a legacy that inspires kindness, compassion, and dedication to others.
Although we miss her every moment, we feel comforted that she loved her
Lord and we shall see her again.
A memorial service to gather and celebrate Betty’s life will be held at
Northside Church in the chapel. For further information regarding the
service, please call 714-501-8296.
