Duke was in a pilot group of ten patients to receive a kidney and pancreas transplant in 1989. He had a very strong faith and was a testament that miracles do happen. Duke was a member of Second Baptist Church in Union City.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years whom he adored, Jan Jennings; his daughter, Amanda Jennings of Union City; his son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Jennifer Jennings of Union City; four grandchildren, Brooke Cary and husband Tanner of Union City, Bryleigh Snead and husband Houston of Halls, Nolan Duke Jennings and Beau Hollis Jennings both of Union City; two great grandchildren, Trace Cary and Townes Lucille Cary both of Union City; and a third great granddaughter that he was looking forward to being born in September 2024; and several nieces and nephews.
