Expert warns medical offices are experiencing higher rates of bacteria, fungi exposure
JACKSON, Tenn. — For those who may be visiting the doctor’s office, make sure to be on watch for new infections.
Currently, there is a high rise in medical offices testing positive for multiple strands of bacteria and fungi.
This is alarming because the rise includes Canada auris and some of these infections are resistant to antibiotics.
Health specialists are encouraging patients, visitors, and healthcare workers to use proper hand hygiene and changing gloves often.
Unfortunately these infections sometimes do not appear in most test.
“And because people don’t always know that they’re carrying it and it’s not always detected it can be pretty far gone by the time it comes out anyone’s attention and then when it causes a severe infection. It is a high death associated with it,” said Dr. Nasia Safdar, professor of medicine at the University of Wisconsin.
Ways to lower the risk of infection include maintaining proper gut health, staying active and having a good diet.
