JACKSON, Tenn. — A memorial is dedicated to former Jackson Police Sergeant, Andy Bailey, commemorating his service to the community.

The Jackson Police Department commemorates the 20th anniversary of the loss of Sergeant Andy Bailey during his line of duty by dedicating a permanent and public memorial in his honor.
“Sergeant Bailey was obviously a member of the JPD family. We were all very close, several of us were working that day back in 2004 when he lost his life. So, we wanted to recognize that sacrifice and honor him on this day and so that’s what’s the memorial’s about,” said JPD Chief, Thom Corley.
Sergeant Bailey was shot and killed by a robbery suspect following a high speed vehicle pursuit June 17 of 2004 while on duty. The suspect was convicted of first degree murder and sentenced to life in prison. Bailey served with the Jackson Police Department for 33 years.

“He was a mentor to all of us that were coming up at that time and we worked under him, worked for him, and worked with him and he was just a great guy and so it was a very, very, very tough loss,” said Chief Corley.
An anniversary motorcycle ride was held for sergeant Andy Bailey last Saturday. The proceeds from that benefit go to local charities including the Andy Bailey Scholarship fund, JPD Public Safety fund, and the Tennessee Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation.

“I’d want the public who see this, and certainly generations in the future, to realize the dedication of a police officer and the– the lengths they’ll go to protect the citizens,” said Chief Corley.
The Jackson Police Department makes sure his legacy is never forgotten.

You can see the memorial for Sergeant Bailey at the corner adjacent to the roundabout at North Highland Avenue and West Deaderick street.
