Drier And Much Hotter Weather Ahead

Tuesday Evening Weather Update

AHEAD IN THE WEATHER:

A strong ridge of high pressure continues to build into the area and expand back further west, taking most of the rain with it. The southerly flow on the edge of high pressure will expand west and away from us mid to late week and we’ll heat up under clearing skies. The high pressure that is building over us now will not only make it very hot for late week but will help to steer the potential developing tropical system, keeping it far away from west Tennessee.

As this ridge of high pressure expands further west, we’ll soon return to a drier weather pattern before the extreme heat builds in late week. Heat index readings will go back into the triple digits again by around Thursday.

TONIGHT:

Most of the rain for the evening has drifted to the west of the Mississippi. It’s a little reminder that weather doesn’t always move from west to east, especially this time of year when convective storms can move in about any direction.

1

For Tonight: Mostly cloudy, humid, and warm, Lows around 73 with light southeast winds 5 mph.

STORMTRACKER 7 RADAR:

TOMORROW:

It will be a slow transition from cloudy skies to a more sunny view. Tomorrow will feature mostly cloudy skies again, but we should see a few more glimpses of the sunshine than we saw today.  Rain chances will be around 20% with highs around 91. Winds will be out of the southeast around 5 to 10 mph.

2

TOMORROW NIGHT:

Partly cloudy skies with lows around 71 and light southeast winds becoming calm late.

THURSDAY:

Thursday looks rain free but it will start of get hot in the afternoon with a highs around 93 and partly cloudy skies. The heat index will be in the upper 90s.

LATE WEEK:

As the ridge of high pressure continues to expand further to our west, our weather will get much more stable but the heat will really get going.  Friday will bring a very hot day and a heat advisory may be needed as highs will top out around 95-97 with a heat index around 102. The weekend looks hot as well with a high around 98 on Saturday before scattered storms return late Sunday into Monday and a return to the upper 80s.

The long term outlook is for mainly hotter than average temperatures and slightly more precipitation than normal.

5

The warm part of this will be very evident towards the end of this week and into parts of next week.

MORE ACTIVE TROPICAL WEATHER:

We are also watching the latest in the Tropics as we may have a tropical storm developing by around Wednesday. On the current course, it would likely end up affecting areas of east Texas by the around Wednesday. Currently the developing system has 40 mph winds and the pressure has been falling through the day which means it is gradually intensifying.

2

A strong area of high pressure will continue to build in our region late week which will keep away any rain away from west Tennessee as the result of the Tropical Depression.

Stay with the WBBJ 7 StormTeam for the latest on any changes in the track and path of this potential tropical system and the extreme heat we may be dealing with late week.
