Study finds intentional communication creates healthier workplaces

JACKSON, Tenn. — Social isolation and chronic loneliness have a devastating effect on physical and mental health but work itself decreases loneliness.

In general, working adults are less lonely than the global average.

However, younger employees are experiencing the highest levels of loneliness.

The lack of improvement in employee engagement and employee wellbeing is notable, as they follow multiple years of steady gains.

Addressing employee mental health, in part, requires support for thriving in life and engagement at work.

“What sets the best managers apart and what the best organizations are doing is being more intentional in their communication and it all boils down to one core habit which is one meaningful conversation a week,” said Kristen Lipton managing partner at Gallup.

That conversation can go a long way in turning a good job into a great job.
