Triple Digit Heat Index Readings Soon
Wednesday Evening Update
AHEAD IN THE WEATHER:
The tropical disturbance of earlier this week has now developed into Tropical Storm Alberto but for us a strong pattern of high pressure will continue to hold us in a mostly dry but hot weather pattern ahead. We’ll take a look at how hot it will get and the latest on Alberto right here!
As this ridge of high pressure expands further west, we’ll soon return to a drier weather pattern before the extreme heat builds in late week. Heat index readings will go up into the upper 90s by tomorrow (Thursday) and into the triple digits by Friday and the Weekend. Under high pressure we’ll have a very stable weather pattern of mostly rain free conditions for a few days but the humidity will continue to be high and under sunny skies we’ll heat up each day. The combination of humidity and higher temperatures will make for dangerous heat conditions into the weekend.
TONIGHT:
Most of the rain for the evening has drifted to the west of the Mississippi. Any rain will continue to push back further west and away from us due to the westward flow of winds from the expanding high pressure. Skies will gradually clear out overnight becoming mostly clear. Lows will drop to around 70 with light east winds 2 to 5 mph.
STORMTRACKER 7 RADAR:
TOMORROW:
It will be a slow transition from cloudy skies to a more sunny view. Tomorrow will feature mostly mostly sunny skies for a change. Rain chances will be very slight at only about 10% at best with highs around 93. The heat index will top out around 95-97 in the afternoon tomorrow afternoon. Winds will be out of the east around 5 to 10 mph.
TOMORROW NIGHT:
Mostly clear skies with lows around 72 and light southeast winds becoming calm late.
LATE WEEK:
As the ridge of high pressure continues to expand further to our west, our weather will get much more stable but the heat will really get going. Friday will bring a very hot day and a heat advisory may be needed as highs will top out around 95-97 with a heat index around 102. The weekend looks hot as well with a high around 98 on Saturday before scattered storms return late Sunday into Monday and a return to the upper 80s.
The long term outlook is for mainly hotter than average temperatures and slightly more precipitation than normal.
The warm part of this will be very evident towards the end of this week and into parts of next week.
MORE ACTIVE TROPICAL WEATHER:
Tropical storm Alberto has developed with 40 mph sustained winds. Alberto is moving to the west southwest at 9 mph and has dropped from 1000 mb of pressure down to 995 mb over the last 24 hours indicating some strengthening. On the current course, it will make landfall soon in the early morning hours of Thursday with winds of 40 mph gusting to around 50 mph at times. A tornado watch has been issued for parts of south Texas overnight into Thursday morning.
Stay with the WBBJ 7 StormTeam for the latest on any changes in the track and path of this potential tropical system and the extreme heat we may be dealing with late week.
