Blackburn, Klobuchar create new bill to combat human trafficking
JACKSON, Tenn. — Thursday, U.S. Senators Blackburn (R-Tenn.) and Klobuchar (D-Minn.) introduced a new bill that aims to create a national human trafficking database housed at the FBI.
This legislation, named the ‘National Human Trafficking Database Act,’ is based off a successful program implemented at the state level in Tennessee.
U.S. Senator, Marsha Blackburn says giving law enforcement more tools is incredibly important.
The bill allows information to be shared across state lines for more efficiency in the fight to protect the vulnerable.
“Just four years ago, human trafficking in the U.S was about a half-billion dollar a year industry, 500 million dollar a year industry, and today it’s over 13 billion in the U.S.,” said Blackburn.
Globally, human trafficking is a $150-billion dollar a year industry.
