Sunny, Hot, And More Tropical Development Possible

Thursday Evening Outlook

AHEAD IN THE WEATHER:

We saw a return to sunshine today along with slightly warmer temperatures. Our high topped out at 92° which is above the average for this time of year. Our average high is 88°. Under a dome of high pressure we’ll maintain well above normal temperatures from now through the weekend and even into the first half of next week. The first weekend for summer is looking dry but very hot ahead.

2

Tropical storm Alberto made landfall early this morning with winds up to 50 mph and heavy rain on the northeast Mexico coast. Heavy rains continue to move through the southeast Texas area but we will avoid any effects from Alberto.

3

Our weather will be under a sweltering heat dome of high pressure that will dig claws in for the next several days. A very stable and dry pattern will prevail with only very light breezes to mostly calm winds combining with high humidity and temperatures soon in the upper 90s. This combination will make for some dangerous heat for the first weekend of summer.

Heat index readings in the triple digits by Friday and the Weekend. Under high pressure we’ll have a very stable weather pattern of mostly rain free conditions for a few days but the humidity will continue to be high and under sunny skies, we’ll heat up each day.

TONIGHT:

We can expect mostly clear skies and lows down to 72° with winds becoming calm.

STORMTRACKER 7 RADAR:

2

TOMORROW NIGHT:

Mostly clear skies and continued humid with lows around 72° and light southeast winds becoming calm late.

WEEKEND:

As the ridge of high pressure continues to expand further to our west, our weather will get much more stable but the heat will really get going. The weekend looks hot as well with a highs around 97° on Saturday and 98° on Sunday.

1

Mostly sunny skies look to be with us both days as well as only very light breezes. Winds will be calm at times making for some oppressive heat each of the afternoons. Only a very small chance of a pop up storm will exist so most will not get a cooldown. Take plenty of breaks in the heat and drink plenty of water if you have weekend plans outdoors.

The long term outlook is for mainly hotter than average temperatures and slightly more precipitation than normal.

5

The warm part of this will be very evident towards the end of this week and into parts of next week.

MORE ACTIVE TROPICAL WEATHER:

Alberto made landfall early this morning and continues to weaken over northern Mexico, but we are watching a couple of other disturbances in the tropics. The main one is located east of Florida and has at least a 40% chance of developing into a tropical storm. Invest 92-L currently has 35 mph sustained winds and continues to move to the west northwest around 14 mph with pressure at 1014 MB. It could affect the Georgia, north Florida, and south Carolina coast over the weekend. Any rain we might get from it would be very limited as it looks now due to the stable air in place over us now but we’ll keep a close watch on it.

2

The heat will get more on the dangerous side for the weekend. Take plenty of breaks. Don’t forget about the pets. Drink plenty of clear liquids if you have outdoor plans over the weekend. Rain looks to be very limited over the next few days. Here are some safety tips for the heat ahead.
