Bethel University hosts Junior Nursing Camp for high school students

MCKENZIE, Tenn. — Bethel University hosted its Junior Nursing Camp Tuesday.

Seven students from high schools across the state gathered to learn about nursing.

They practiced practical skills and learned about the respiratory system and the future of nursing.

Plus, they were able to tour a helicopter when discussing flight nursing.

“The students have seemed to really enjoy themselves. They got the opportunity to interact with our nursing students and ask them questions about the program and about the profession of nursing and they’ve really seemed to enjoy the opportunity to do that and then, doing the hands on skills, it’s a lot more fun when you get to see what we do as nurses everyday and some of those skills associated with it,” said Jason Hypes, associate professor of nursing at Bethel University.

Participants ended their day with relay races involving the skills they learned.

For those who missed Tuesday’s event, another junior nurse camp will be held July 16 for high school students to come and enjoy.
