NASA, NOAA’s final weather satellite installment launches
JACKSON, Tenn. — The nation’s most advanced fleet of weather satellites is getting an update.

The fourth and final installation of NOAA‘s GOES-R series launched from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center today.
The new satellite, named GOES-U, will join the fleet that helps keep us safe here on the ground and in space.
GOES stands for Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellites.
The fleet of satellites provide fast, clear and reliable weather-tracking information.
“It keeps an eye on all weather from the California coast all the way to Africa. So, hurricanes that are coming across the Atlantic, severe storms in the central part of the country. GOES sees all of it,” said Jordan Gerth, Meteorologist for the National Weather Service.
This information helps the National Weather Service create severe weather watches and warnings.
