Tuesday morning plane crash claims life of West TN pilot

MARTIN, Tenn. — A small plane crash claims a life in West Tennessee.

The City of Martin Fire Rescue responded to a plane crash on Tuesday morning on June 25 at 8:25 a.m.

First responders arrived on Vancleave Road in Martin, Tennessee.

There at the scene officers saw a small plane crashed in the wooded areas.

“One person was on board, they are deceased. Currently, right now, the patient has been removed from the air plane and sent to the local hospital for autopsy. FFA just arrived on scene,” said Kory Green, Captain of the Martin Fire Department.

All entrances are currently blocked and only allowing residents and first responders on Vancleave Road where the incident occurred.

“As far as we know, everything was routine when this started. He was spraying a field nearby and unknown why it went down or anything like that,” said Green.

The Everett Stewart Regional Airport shared a post on Facebook releasing the name of the pilot, Scott Rainey.

They also shared that Rainey was an outstanding board member and served on their personnel committee and agriculture committee.

“We just send our condolences to them for the loss of their loved one we’re here for them if they need anything. And we have prayers for them because that’s all we can do right now,” said Green.

The crash is currently under investigation by the FAA.
