Annual concert supports Down Syndrome Association, promotes inclusivity

JACKSON, Tenn. — Not only did one concert guarantee attendees live music but the proceeds help lend a hand to an organization that helps thousands with a genetic disorder.

Wednesday night the 12th Annual ‘Country Music Lends Down a Hand’ concert was held at The Farm in the Casey Jones Village.

“All the money goes toward the Down Syndrome Association for all the young adults and children throughout the year,” said Hope Wadley, event coordinator.

Wadley says this event serves as a way to incorporate those with Down Syndrome into events they normally would not have the opportunity to partake in.

“Well I have a special needs child as well and they are still people and they still need to recognized as people in the world. They want to have fun and be loved just like everyone else,” said Wadley.

Wadley says the event was created 12 years ago after her friend expressed concern about her child with special needs not being able to attend a summer camp.

“Community has been so great. They’ve been coming out supporting us, even with bad weather and God has just blessed us today and we’re hoping for a great time,” said Wadley.

The lineup of the night included artists: Jessie Smith, The Holy Smokes, and the Kimberly Helton Band. So, whether you were singing or enjoying the show, you were guaranteed a good time.

Wadley admitted some concern over the weather before the event, however she was glad the rain held off.
