City provides clarification on nighttime traffic signal changes
JACKSON, Tenn. — After concerned calls regarding flashing traffic lights in the Hub City, we reached out to one City employee for clarification.
After months of planning and testing, the Jackson Traffic Signal Team created a system for better traffic flow at late hours.
“We started doing that a couple months ago I think we started off with one corridor at a time. We didn’t do them all at one time, so we just started small, kinda worked our way up a little,” said Dylan Middleton with the City of Jackson.
Middleton shares how this plan progressed to where it is now. He shares that workers who work later at night have enjoyed this system.
“We had some good feedback from people going to work later in the night like factory workers. At first it took everybody by an awe. But once they figured it out then as we started implementing in other areas a lot of people caught on quick about what to do and how to proceed the intersection,” said Middleton.
Middleton shares what time to expect to see flashing traffic lights.
“They go into flash at 11 p.m. and they would flash till 5 in the morning,” said Middleton.
However these lights are not on every intersection in the city.
“So we have F.E Wright starting at Sand Pebble all the way down to Ridgecrest. All of Hollywood. All of Royal. The newest one was Highland, we started Walmart south all the way up to North Park on Highland and flash,” said Middleton.
Middleton also provides a guide to help with how to proceed with this intersection
“Well, just like any other one, if it’s flashing yellow you shall proceed with caution if its flashing red you stop, then look both ways like a four way stop,” said Middleton.
The lights intersecting Highland and the interstate will continue with the regular traffic system.
