Haywood County holds 4th annual ‘Honoring Haywood’s Heroes’ event
BROWNSVILLE, Tenn. — One local county is showing appreciation to recognize those that have fought for our country.
Haywood County honors their heroes with a celebration. This fourth annual occasion acknowledges the appreciation for county and city law enforcement, fire department personnel, ambulance service personnel, the rescue squad, and remembers the Haywood men and women who died in defense of our country.
“It’s about patriotism where we’re coming ahead of the Fourth of July. We’re honoring the first defenders. This is a day we honor them and remember them,” said Barry Presley, retired army chaplain.
Presley tells us it’s the speakers of this event that make this possible to bring everyone together for this cause.
“The mayor, both the city and the county mayor, will be speaking. The sheriff will be speaking, the police chief, the fire chief. We have a guest speaking, the mayor from Knox County, Tennessee who will be the major speaker,” said Presley.
He hopes this will increase integrity for patriotism that may be often be overlooked.
“I’m 76 years old and the older I get the less emphasis we’ve had on country or patriotism and service and giving back. And this is our communities way of saying we haven’t forgotten. So, this is why it’s important for us to do this,” said Presley.
The moving ceremony served as a reminder of the importance of gratitude and appreciation towards the incredible men and women who dedicate their lives to safeguarding our communities and upholding our nation’s values.
This was the fourth annual celebration of Honoring Haywood County’s Heroes.
