Stray bullet flies through home in Jackson, narrowly missing woman
JACKSON, Tenn. — What was supposed to be a fun-filled evening, celebrating the Fourth of July, turned out to be extremely frightening for one West Tennessee mother.
In a recent social media post, a mother shares she was settling down for the evening, late Thursday night, when she heard a loud boom and glass shattering inside her home.
You can see in the picture, where a stray bullet entered her home through a window.
In another picture, you can see the arrow points to where the bullet entered through the window.
The circle on the carpet is where the bullet landed and the circle on the stairs is where she was sitting, merely two feet away from where the bullet landed.
According to the post, the woman notified police immediately, who responded swiftly.
Law enforcement officers with the Jackson Police Department say incidents like these do not just happen around the holidays, and urge people to not partake in celebratory gunfire.
“We get tired sometimes of innocent people getting injured due to recklessness. And that’s what Chief Corely is trying to put out there. We are not only trying to keep our community safe but we are trying to keep our residents’ people safe, and our young people safe and everybody within our community safe,” said Sgt. Curtis Cozart with the JPD.
Fortunately, no one was injured in this incident, but as for those who partake in this type of behavior, local law enforcement has a message for you.
“Best believe if you do get caught in that action, we’re going to take action,” said Cozart.
JPD says those who think celebratory gunfire is harmless, remember that what goes up, must come down.
“People really don’t understand just because you shoot a gun at an angle or if you’re kind of shooting it not really necessarily directly in the air of kind of like toward the air I mean that round still has to fall somewhere,” said Cozart.
JPD also reminds that those who partake in this type of behavior could face reckless endangerment charges.
