Wayne Akin

Wayne Akin, 75, of Union City went home to be with the Lord Saturday morning, July 20, 2024, at his home.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Second Baptist Church in Union City. Pastor Justin Hiens and Dr. Eric Smith will officiate. Graveside services will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at Belews Chapel Cemetery Bradford.

Visitation will be held at Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday and at Second Baptist Church from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of services Wednesday.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Akin, Ryan Humphries, Nicholas Akin, Bradley Akin, Matthew Akin and Justin Kelly.

Honorary pallbearers will be Brian Akin, Dale Akin and members of the Lamp Lighters Sunday School Class.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Second Baptist Church Legacy Campaign, 831 N. Everett Blvd, Union City, Tennessee 38261

Wayne was born December 12, 1948, in Milan, son of the late R.J. and Lola Christine (Usery) Akin. He married Janice (Hayes) Akin June 14, 1968. Wayne retired as a supervisor in the tire room at the former Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company after 42 years of service. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing and gardening. Wayne was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Tennessee Volunteer fan. He was a member of Second Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon, was on the security team and a member of the Lamp Lighters Sunday School Class. Wayne was also a Mason.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years Janice Akin of Union City; two sons, Tommy Akin and wife Angie of Guthrie, Oklahoma and Brian Akin of Dyersburg; six grandchildren, Ali Kate Akin, Bradley Wayne Akin and Ryan Humphries all of Dyersburg, Whitney Ikemire of Paris, Kayla Wilson and husband Matt of Gates and Nicholas Wayne Akin of Guthrie, Oklahoma; six great grandchildren, Hunter, Brett and Kaylei Ikemire, Lucas and Madelyn Wilson and Rylan Humphries; one brother, James Akin and wife Melody of Munford; his mother-in-law, Jewell Hayes of Bradford; three nieces; and two nephews.

He was also preceded in death by one brother, Bobby Akin; and his father-in-law, Thurman Hayes.
