Contestants arrive for Miss Tennessee Volunteer week
JACKSON, Tenn. — This is the time to meet all 36 contestants competing for the title of Miss Tennessee Volunteer.
During competition, the participants are judged in four categories: fitness, interview, evening gown, and talent.
“I was just crowned, well, yesterday, and just being able to see everyone and guessing who’s going to be the next Miss Tennessee Volunteer, it’s got my nerves going and I can’t wait,” said Kristin Henning, Miss Tennessee Teen Volunteer 2025.
The organization’s mission is to empower young women through education and opportunity, and it also awards scholarships to teen volunteers.
“I love doing this. I get to walk around and teach little kids about the five points of the crown: scholarship, education, responsibility, volunteerism and empowerment. I think telling them about that and telling them how to implement that in their day to day lives is just an amazing opportunity,” said Katherine West, Miss Tennessee Iris Teen 2025.
For some, the opportunity to serve others is what attracts them to the competition.
“Serve is very powerful. I mean the world needs a lot of volunteering and empowerment in life and respect. It’s something that you have for yourself and other people. So implementing serve into your day to day life is something that everyone can do so easily,” said Henning.
According to the Community Economic Development Commission’s survey, the pageant brings in over $2 million to Jackson during pageant week.
“Being here today, just getting to see all the Miss contestants vying for the Miss Tennessee Volunteer title is amazing. I love getting to see all the little princesses running around too,” West said.
The Miss Tennessee Volunteer pageant will be held July 24-27. Wednesday through Friday is the preliminary competition, and the crowning is on Saturday at the Carl Perkins Civic Center in downtown Jackson.
Current reigning Miss Tennessee Volunteer Jada Brown will crown the winner on Saturday.
