Contestants prepare for Miss Tennessee Volunteer Pageant
JACKSON, Tenn. — The Miss Tennessee Volunteer Pageant is getting underway here in the Hub City this week.
There are a variety of events going on all week leading up to the Miss Tennessee Volunteer Pageant. They recently had a meet and greet and now they’re kicking off the week with a luncheon.
“We have luncheons for the contestants every single day of the week and today we have the Jackson’s Lions Club and the Old Hickory Rotary Club. They have been supporters of our pageant for so many years, so I’m excited that they are hosting again this year,” said Jada Brown, current Miss Tennessee Volunteer.
This is an opportunity for the participants to create important connections and relationship.
“We do get along together and I love that the Miss Tennessee Volunteer organization offers girls of all ages–all the way from 4 to 18, to participate in this pageant and to just teach us things to become better. So, I love it so much,” said Brown.
There are 35 contestants competing. As Brown prepares to relinquish her crown to the next title holder, she tells us what’s next for her.
“I’m actually moving back to my hometown Plant City, Florida, after this–right after I crown the next girl. So, I’m excited to go into the next chapter but I am very sad because I feel like I officially am a Tennessean. So, it’s a little sad to be leaving this behind but of course I’ll be coming back every year,” said Brown.
Brown tells us the biggest return on investment is the support because the contestants get scholarship money just for being a part of the competition.
“As Miss Tennessee Volunteer, I earned 11,000 dollars in scholarship money and each advancement that you take–you get scholarship money just for competing and finals night, if you make it into the top 16, you earn more. Top twelve, and then it continues to go on the more that you make it into the competition. So it’s a chance for all women get to empower themselves through their education,” said Brown.
If you want to keep up with the this three day competition, the Carl Perkins Civic Center is the place to be every night starting Wednesday, July 24, through Friday, July 26, for preliminaries.
The crowning of the new Miss Tennessee Volunteer will be Saturday night, July 27.
Tickets can be purchased at the door of the civic center or by clicking here.
