One local event prepares students for the start of school

JACKSON, Tenn.—One event helps prepare students for the upcoming school year, and also provides some summer fun.

The Theta Iota Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. and Jackson Madison County School System partner together to provide the Community Cookout and Back to School Supply Giveaway.

The event was held today from noon until 2 this afternoon at T.R. White Sportsplex located at 304 N. Hayes Avenue in Jackson.

Several activities were available for the kids including bounce houses, a rock climbing wall, and even a game truck.

Free food was provided for those who attended and school supplies were also given away.

“To see our industry and our community come together to help these kids with what they need to go back to school, and teaching them that part of being a good citizen is being a good community member and all of our industry is helping support that,” said Sherry Franks, School Board District 5 Postion 1.

The supply giveaway was available for those children in grades K-8.
