Madison County officials hold meeting to discuss new juvenile justice complex
MADISON COUNTY, Tenn. — A brief meeting was held to discuss what’s to come for a new juvenile justice complex in Madison County.
According to Mayor AJ Massey, 10 of the 13 property owners said they would negotiate a price to sell their portion of land where the new juvenile center is said to be located.
Massey says the county would, “pay a fair market value, if not better” for each piece of property.
The committee passed a motion to reach out to a commercial appraiser to determine a price per acre for properties in the area.
“It’ll be at an evaluation that gives us an idea of how much we want to offer for those properties. We are wanting to make it fair for the property owners and at the same time it’s a need for the county and our next capital project,” said Massey.
“Make certain that we let everything that we need for our children as we work with them daily to make certain that we avoid further crime in this community,” said Christy Little, Judge for Madison County Juvenile Court.
Massey says the other three property owners, who the county has not been able to contact, could be a hindrance, however, the land is attainable through the imminent domain process.
