Nearly 2,000 JMCSS employees prepare for school year with in-service celebration

JACKSON, Tenn. — Jackson-Madison County School System employees kick off the new school year with a week of in-service days to prepare and celebrate the start of the new school year.

A celebration was held Tuesday at the Carl Perkins Civic Center.

Nearly 2,000 school employees listened to inspirational sounds of local gospel artist, Kelsea Merriweather.

Employees also heard from nationally recognized speaker Thomas Dismukes, and Superintendent Dr. Marlon King gave a message.

Several students also participated in the back-to-school kickoff, including Liberty Tech’s Junior ROTC color guard and the district’s choir.

“The whole district can come together and feed off other schools. It also bring us closer, like a close-knit family,” said Willie Parks, CTE lead teacher and work-based learning coordinator for JCM High School.

“Hard to put into words, it’s amazing to work for a district that supports you as a person,” said Erin Piefer, 8th grade math teacher and math coach for JCM Middle School.

In-service sessions continue throughout the week, led by different educators in the district who share their strengths and goals for the upcoming school year.
