PRESS RELEASE FROM MADISON COUNTY OPIOID COMMITTEE:

OPIOID COMMITTEE NOW ACCEPTING PROPOSALS FOR FUNDING
Committee to Award Approximately $800,000 to Combat Opioid Crisis

JACKSON, Tenn. – The Madison County Opioid Committee is now accepting applications for opioid settlement grant funding. This year the committee plans to award more than $800,000 to fund projects that will prevent opioid misuse, support those affected by addiction and promote long-term recovery.

Applications will be accepted from any organization that serves residents of Madison County but will only be distributed to those that provide services that fall within the approved remediation uses set forth by the Tennessee Opioid Abatement Council.

Applications and a list of approved strategies can be found at https://madisoncountytn.gov/706/Opioid-Committee

Applications are available beginning Aug. 1, 2024. All proposals are due Sep. 15, 2024.

The Madison County Opioid Committee will review all applications received and make funding recommendations to the County Mayor and Madison County Commission for final approval. Final selection will be based on county priorities, community needs, funds available, cost-effectiveness and federal and state regulations.

Award announcements are expected by Nov. 1, 2024.

Due to the extensive damage and loss of life caused by the opioid crisis that was brought on by the unethical and over-prescribing of opioid medications, the state of Tennessee will receive more than $1 billion over 18 years in settlement funds from several large corporations. Madison County has been allocated a portion of these funds, which will be received in annual payments.

The County has established the Madison County Opioid Committee to oversee the spending of these funds to ensure they are used to remediate the opioid crisis and save lives.
