Mckenzie High School Football

Mckenzie Rebels Football

Let’s kick things off out of Mckenzie, because two weeks from Friday they will take the field for week 1.
Last year they had a great season where they had  a 5-0 district record and found themselves well into the playoffs with a 12 game winning
streak. However, soon after their season would come to an end at the hands of South Pittsburg who won with a final of
14 to 7. Despite the loss they had an overall record of 13-2. As the offseason progressed they would lose state champion
head coach Wade Comer who is now the head coach of Milan Bulldogs football. But, when one door closes another one
opens. They were able to secure Dresden lions coach Keith Hodge who led the lions undefeated in the region and 13-1 overall.
So a lot of big changes for the rebels but they will now be led by coach Hodges and senior quarterback Tate Surber. We caught up with coach
Earlier today and he spoke on how everyone is adjusting and the only way to get better is to get reps.

“Worked hard just to get to where we are right now. You know everything is kinda new for the guys
And you know I’m new here. You know we got a couple of new coaches and it is an adjustment you
Know it’s a transition for the kids and they’ve done really well. You know you can’t get enough reps
This time of year you can’t get enough practice time you cant get enough things put in and ready for the first game of the year. Like I said it takes time, it takes a lot of practice time lot of energy. ”

They kick the season off on Friday August 23rd at 7:00 pm on the road against Huntingdon.
