City Councilman seeks help regarding vandalism of property
JACKSON, Tenn. — City Councilman Johnny Dodd seeks assistance regarding vandalism in east Jackson.
“I had a couple of developers from east Tennessee that was visiting our community and so I was showing them around our city. They inquired about the Hub Club so I brought them out to take a look at the Hub Club, and so as we were walking, I took a look to my left and saw that one of the goals was vandalized,” said City Councilman, and Director of the new Hub Club, Johnny Dodd.
Councilman Johnny Dodd, said that the vandalizing of the basketball goal must have occurred Monday evening.
He said it was ruined because of rocks being thrown at it.
Dodd also said that it didn’t start with this one, but another goal on the property last summer. These goals were donated to the new Hub Club .
“We just shook our heads and were like, ‘Why?’ That’s the question we keep asking because we have a youth program here for our kids in the community. We want to start an after school program, so when we start our program, what can the kids do outside now?” said Councilman Dodd.
He said they are working toward increasing the security measures of the Hub Club.
“Take a look at our camera system to update it. It’s a new one, but it’s a component that we don’t have. So we’re going to add that component to it. Then, we’re going to talk to our police department because they have a camera over here also,” said Councilman Dodd.
He said that he wants the community not to take away things, like the destroyed goal, from kids who enjoy it.
“I’d do anything for anybody. It hurts my heart that you’re taking away from my kids that I’m trying to do something for–the community. And you take it upon yourself to come up here on our property and destroy our basketball goals for our kids. I would’ve given you a basketball. Not throwing rocks at it. But once again, I just want to say please parents, know where your kids are,” said Councilman Dodd.
Dodd stated that those responsible for the vandalizing needs to face some type of punishment.
