Local churches partner to host ‘Praise in the Park’ event

JACKSON, Tenn. — Two churches partnered for a night of worship in a local park on Sunday.

Aldersgate Methodist Church and Poplar Heights Church came together to have worship service at Muse Park. This is something they hope they can get more churches to participate in.

“Pastor Currie, a few years ago God just put it on his heart that we needed to start moving in directions that begin to work towards unity within the community. Not only in just getting along but in those places where we grow in faith,” said Chris Cooksey, pastor for Aldersgate Methodist Church.

Members tell us the mission is to help people find a peace with God that they didn’t know before they had a real spiritual relationship.

“This is just an effort to say we should be able to come together and work together in order to help our community. You know this world has a lot of trouble and the church has always said we have the answer and that Jesus is the answer. He’s the hope that people need and if the churches could learn how to work together and cooperate together then maybe we can do some good in our community,” said Richard Bragg, senior pastor for Poplar Heights Church.

They express that it doesn’t matter where you come from as far as church experience or denomination. They want all people to come together to be the example for a brighter future.

“We see in the world a lot of division, a lot of problems, a lot of hurt, a lot of pain and a lot of reason to be mad. What our faith teaches us is, God is this overarching author of something that is better–that guides us to living better,” said Cooksey.

One of the youth from the congregation had a special message to share.

“God’s very important so be good because God follows you and when you get baptized you remember to go to church,” said Sarah Anne, youth attendee.

Praise in the Park will be ongoing for the next couple of months in different parks around the area and with different churches partnering together.

The next attentive date for praise in the park is set for August 18 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Muse Park.

They are looking for more churches to get involved and to be a part of this movement to positively influence all communities in the region.
